For an oriented orthonormal basis $(u, v)$ of $p_{L}^{⊥}$ , with $(p_{L}, u, v)$ positively oriented,

cos μ = η (u, Lu), sin μ = η (v, Lu)

recover the oriented deficit. For a spacelike piece with future unit normal $n$ , set

χ (p, n) = arccosh (- η (p, n)) .

Both vectors must be expressed in the same development.
