In the counterexample, place the input and its unchanged residual at a site outside the scheduled past of a readout of . The residual responds to the input while the readout law on remains constant. The cone theorem does not require all systems outside its readout cone to be input independent. Nor does nonconstant residual response establish geometric backreaction.
