Taking to be a Gibbs state makes the selected energy statistics thermal. It does not make the entire return channel constant. Thus selected entropy, occupation calibration, and logical recovery answer different questions. Sequential versions of this separation are documented in CheungHawk01B; finite occupation and source-channel comparisons are documented in CheungEm03E,CheungEm03F,CheungEm03G.
