Fix the preparation, collection interval, decoder, access boundary, and null before using the assessment sample. For attempt $i$ , sample independent uniform $X_{i}, J_{i}$ under the declared protocol, and set

The sample size is the number of complete attempts, not the number of photons or within-attempt detector bins.
