The unavoidable scalar residue

The residues are extension scaling defects. They must not be identified without further analysis with a curvature-dependent quantum trace anomaly. For example, at $\xi =1/6$ the mixed trace of the constructed stress is exactly zero, even when its normal-dilation residue is nonzero. Changing $L$ changes a contact convention and does not change any regular-part value.
