The equation space and its action
The retained first-order jet and its retarded section › The equation space and its action · lines 1042–1054
The proof retains the forced scalar correction CheungIIIJet. Discarding , or declaring it independently free, would change the equation space and invalidate this conclusion.
The evaluation of a field-dependent section is an orbit calculation. Differentiating that section in a symplectic or Hamiltonian reduction is an additional operation; derivatives of would then have to be retained.
