The role of a sourced metric coefficient is different from the vacuum perturbations in Models 1 and 2. The formal coefficient equations motivating it are

G^{(1)} (k) = 0, G^{(1)} (j) + G^{(2)} [k, k] = T (η, ϕ_{0}), P ϕ_{0} = 0, P ϕ_{1} = - L_{k} ϕ_{0} .

Only the $k = 0$ source is represented in Model 3. In particular, $j$ is not substituted for $k$ in a first-order scalar correction.
