The matrix $V : C \to H_{\partial}$ is defined, for every row $x$ and column $i \in {0, 1}$ , by

V_{x, i} = \frac{1}{4} (- 1)^{q (x) + i} 1_{{p (x) = i}} .

Write $∣ 0_{L} ⟩ = V ∣ 0 ⟩$ , $∣ 1_{L} ⟩ = V ∣ 1 ⟩$ , and $V (M) = V M V^{†}$ .
