Suppose

is given away from , with . A supported finite-normal-order extension exists if and only if every has an extension . The coefficient extensions are unique for a given , but are not necessarily unique from .

Proof. Choose a smooth cutoff near zero. Testing against isolates , up to the known sign, since its normal derivative at zero is . Thus a supported extension uniquely determines coefficient extensions.

Conversely, given the coefficient extensions, their finite inserted sum defines and has the required restriction. Two coefficient extensions can differ by distributions supported on , producing different contact terms.
