Abstract: We prove Gersten's conjecture: every finitely generated one-relator group containing no subgroup isomorphic to a Baumslag–Solitar group ${}mathop{{}mathrm{BS}}{}nolimits (m,n)$, for nonzero integers m, n, is word-hyperbolic.
