Remark: Off-shell strength and on-shell restriction

The invariance proof uses coordinate covariance and fixed coordinate Cauchy data, not the Einstein or scalar equations. It therefore also gives an off-shell formal invariance statement. Restriction to ${\mathcal{J}}_T$ makes it an observable on the named solution-jet quotient. This does not establish quantum renormalizability of the functional.
