We distinguish two coordinate matrix norms:

∥ M ∥_{2} = ∣ v ∣_{2} = 1 sup ∣ M v ∣_{2}, ∥ M ∥_{row} = i max j \sum ∣ M_{ij} ∣ .

The latter is the maximum-absolute-row-sum matrix norm, often denoted $∥ M ∥_{\infty}$ . It is not the quantum operator-norm notation used elsewhere. Neither is a Lorentz-invariant packet distance.
