The Hessian of is the retained free Hessian, but for general off-shell its metric Euler equation has the additional source . At , is exactly the free action (eq:freeaction).
Equation (eq:tadpole) is not silently replaced by the fluctuation-independent-source subtraction used in X-F's response prescription. Such a replacement would change the action being used in this section. Therefore this reference BV action is not asserted to be an exact variational realization of that prescription.
