The three endings concern the characteristic construction:

  1. Constructed: cancellation of the complete retained germ, with the requisite lower-order control, or one characteristic prescription with its degree, ambiguity, and wavefront theorem, discharges the named J2 problem.

  2. Proved obstructed: an explicit incompatibility excludes every prescription in a class fixed before the test.

  3. Unresolved: the complete sum is uncontrolled, or a required prescription or estimate is missing.

A failed sufficient product criterion is not the second ending. A nonzero numerator of one branch does not establish failure of cancellation of the complete pair. Even a successful J2 prescription would not by itself release .
