Equation (eq:vanishing) asserts existence of a descending candidate; it does not assert that every candidate descends.

An application to a frozen analytic construction must establish that the selected family really is affine, that its members meet the required constraints, and, for an exclusion theorem, that it exhausts the class being excluded. Defining (eq:obstruction) does not evaluate that class for a particular graph.
