  1. The two XIV-J values , Jnull are instances of (eq:Recrule) with , resp.\ , all other coefficients zero.

  2. If is linear over multiplication by the chart function (a property not reproduced), then (eq:Recrule) annihilates the null relation of Jnull: by Lemma lem:taylor.

  3. Suppose the coefficients are independent of . Then the family is linearly independent over that class, is free on it, and iff all . In particular is linearly independent over .

  4. Suppose the coefficient class contains the chart functions or . Then the family is linearly dependent over that class:

If is linear over the coefficient class, each of these is a null relation of ; XIV-J's relation is the first with , . In this case strictly contains the coefficient kernel, and is not free on the family.

Proof. (i) is read off; (ii) is Lemma lem:taylor. (iii) First, is independent over : if , apply the Fourier transform on ( is tempered). From , coincides on the open set with a smooth nowhere-vanishing function. The relation gives with , so on , hence and all . Now pair a vanishing sum with , where denotes the chart variables other than : . Choose with for the finitely many occurring; then , so for all . (iv) The first identity is Lemma lem:taylor. by pulled back along on , and has no mass at by Lemma lem:R(i). Differentiating gives . The remaining assertions are restatements.
