  1. Let and with satisfy for all supported in a compact neighborhood of . Then there are unique , , with , i.e. .

  2. The , , , are linearly independent in .

  3. If , is infinite-dimensional.

  4. If , the subspace of elements all of whose coefficients have order at most near has basis and dimension .

  5. is injective on ; hence is infinite-dimensional whenever , and for its order- subspace has dimension .

Proof. (i) Let and ; extends and . Choose a closed ball centered at and with closed -neighborhood . Let have vanishing -jet at and with near . Then since vanishes near , and (R3) applied to , , gives . So : the functional factors through the -jet map , which is surjective (use ). A linear form on is ; uniqueness follows from surjectivity. (This is the classical structure theorem Horm (Thm. 2.3.4), rederived from (R3) to keep the order bookkeeping explicit.)

(ii) If (finite sum), pair with using (eq:extract): for all ; with this is .

(iii) Pick ; the lie in and are independent by (ii).

(iv) By (i) the displayed family spans; by (ii) it is independent; its cardinality is .

(v) For the presentation with and all other components zero, , which vanishes iff by (R1). The dimension statements follow from (i)–(iii).
