This lemma concerns the model family itself; it does not yet identify with derivatives of the predecessor kernel . For let in . The limit exists, and:

  1. (a)

    ;

  2. (b)

    ;

  3. (c)

    , where the product is the existing Hörmander product on (wavefront criterion).

Proof. {Points with .} Near such a point and in , so there and (a)–(c) are identities of smooth functions.

Nonzero null points. Let with . Then , because is nondegenerate and . Hence is a local coordinate: there is a neighbourhood and a diffeomorphism with . On , in . This is the boundary value from of the holomorphic function , and . Pullback by the submersion (Hörmander, Thm. 6.1.2) is continuous, so and the limit exists on .

Its Fourier transform satisfies for . This transform is supported in the single half-line , the same for every . Hence , and by the pullback theorem (Hörmander, Thm. 8.2.4)

with one sign for all .

Compatibility. All are defined by the same limit from the same side, globally on . The local descriptions therefore agree on overlaps, and with off the cone.

(a) . In the local coordinate, is a constant times , and with in ; so the remainder tends to in .

(b) Derivatives commute with limits in , and .

(c) Same-sign boundary-value product. Since and contains no opposite covectors , Hörmander's criterion (Thm. 8.2.10) defines the product in . It remains to identify that product with .

All are boundary values from the same lower half-plane. Locally near a nonzero null point, in the coordinate of the first paragraph,

The one-variable distributions and therefore arise as boundary values of the holomorphic functions and from . We identify their Hörmander product by an explicit Fourier computation. Write and use the one-variable convention , with inverse ; then (Hörmander's with ). As above, (for : and ; then ).

Beta integral. For the convolution runs over the finite interval , where both factors are supported; with , , over becomes , and

Since and for , this equals ; for the integrand vanishes. So , the integral being absolutely convergent.

Identification with the Hörmander product. For the Hörmander product is characterized locally by , the integral converging absolutely under the wavefront condition (Hörmander, proof of Thm. 8.2.10). Here . Because is Schwartz while are polynomially bounded and supported in , the iterated integral runs in over an interval of length at most and converges absolutely; Fubini allows regrouping:

Hence for every , i.e.

Transfer to the chart. With , , and pullback is multiplicative on distributions satisfying the product condition (Hörmander, Thms. 8.2.4 and 8.2.10: the product is the pullback of the tensor product by the diagonal map, and pullbacks compose); thus , and, pulling back further by the diffeomorphism , on . Off the cone the identity is the smooth identity . On overlaps the two local descriptions agree by the global same-side limit . Thus on .
