Proposition: No universal return and no record-only residual

The report instrument has no universal left inverse. Its classical marginal does not determine its surviving quantum state.

Proof. The distinct coherent clock states $(|{\tau }_1⟩\pm |{\tau }_2⟩)/\sqrt{2}$, tensored with the same laboratory state, have identical outputs. Also, $|{\tau }_1⟩⟨{\tau }_1|\otimes {\rho }_A$ and $|{\tau }_1⟩⟨{\tau }_1|\otimes {{\rho }^{\prime }}_A$, with ${\rho }_A\ne {{\rho }^{\prime }}_A$, have the same deterministic record and different residuals.
