XXII-E@1#prop:finite-samples
Let be a finite set in an open comparison region . There are smooth conformal metric families that agree with on neighborhoods of every point of , have the same pointwise cones everywhere, and have nonzero first-order Einstein curvature elsewhere.
Proof. Choose and a ball about whose closure is contained in and misses . Choose a smooth compactly supported bump in that ball, equal to one near . Set
The metrics equal near , and their cones are unchanged. Near , Proposition prop:conformal gives the nonzero spatial components of their first variation's Einstein tensor.
