Overlap of the candidates' min–max intervals is only a necessary span condition for zero-tolerance common support. It is not sufficient for the discrete grids. Pooled percentiles do not repair a lack of common support.
The same candidate can be nearest to several targets. Those repeated selections are not independent experimental replicates.
