A distribution annihilates if and only if it has a unique expression

The coefficients are recovered continuously by

In particular such a distribution is supported on .

Proof. An expression (eq:generalnormal) plainly annihilates . Its coefficients are unique by Lemma lem:jetinsert.

Conversely, choose the same cutoff as in (eq:Jjet) and subtract the finite normal Taylor jet of a test:

If annihilates this difference, its value is determined by the finite displayed jet. Defining the coefficients by (eq:extraction) therefore gives (eq:generalnormal). Continuity follows from continuity of the test-extension maps .

A test supported off has every jet zero, so vanishes on that test.
