Let $C = R$ , $Y^{1} = R^{2}$ , $L c = (c, 0)$ , and $a = (0, 1)$ . The first-coordinate test vanishes at $c = 0$ , but the full defect is never zero. The second coordinate separates $a$ from every allowed adjustment.
